Foot deformity: where to begin learning?

An introductory perspective and questions you can bring to a professional.

Appearance does not tell the whole story

A diagnosis cannot be made simply by looking at the shape of a foot. Flat feet, for example, do not always cause problems. The NHS recommends medical assessment when they involve pain, stiffness, weakness, numbness or difficulty walking.

Bring clear questions

When did the change begin? Does it affect one foot or both? How does it affect everyday movement? Notes can help you explain your concerns clearly. Prepare questions on paper or on your phone before an appointment.

A project and an individual medical decision

Doğru addım focuses on foot deformity and physiotherapy. Information about a project is not an individual examination result. Get participation details from the registration page and answers to personal medical questions from a qualified professional.

Describe the experience clearly

Before a conversation with a professional, note a few everyday situations: standing for a long time, going to work or school, climbing stairs, playing or resting. Explain the concern in your own words, including when you first noticed it and how it affects your routine. This is preparation for a conversation, not a way to diagnose yourself. Describe your experience rather than comparing photographs of your feet with those of other people.

Choose information thoughtfully

A short social media video rarely provides the context needed for a personal decision. Look for an identifiable author, a relevant source and a clear update date. Treat promises of the same result for everyone cautiously. An article can introduce a subject; your circumstances still need individual consideration. Save a point you have read and turn it into a question: “Does this apply to my situation, and how would we establish that?”

Leave with an understood next step

At the end of a discussion, repeat the next step in your own words. What remains unclear, who should you contact and where can you take a follow-up question? Ask about the purpose of any recommendation and how it will be reviewed. It is reasonable to ask for unfamiliar terms to be explained. Keep your notes together so you can distinguish what was agreed from questions that came to mind later.

Learn about Doğru addım

CHARE’s Doğru addım project focuses on physiotherapy and foot deformity. The project page explains the theme and questions to consider before applying; registration takes place separately on Tad1. Confirm the date, location, eligibility and any costs before making plans. In an initial WhatsApp enquiry, share only your general question. Ask the organiser which confirmed channel is appropriate if personal records are subsequently required. A project introduction does not establish individual medical suitability.
